Plug and play is a phrase rarely if ever used to describe the experience of installing anything on a z/OS mainframe. Indeed, most if not all, mainframe systems administrators want control over their new software installation and upgrade processes, so plug and play isn’t really what they look for in mainframe software. CA has recently demonstrated that life on the mainframe side of the house doesn’t have to come with a complex, time consuming, and error‐prone software management regime requiring years of experience. CA’s Mainframe Software Manager (MSM) is a bit more sophisticated than a PC software “wizard” but it does achieve the same objective—that is to get the mainframe administrator through a software installation or update process in minimum time and without error. 7 pages.
